Morphogenesis

Alisson G. Silva

Morphogenesis is the biological process that causes an organism to develop its shape. It is one of three fundamental aspects of developmental biology along with the control of cell growth and cellular differentiation, unified in evolutionary developmental biology. The process controls the organized spatial distribution of cells during development of an organism. The spatial arrangement of the cells during the embryonic development of an organism is regulated during a morphogenesis. Based on these scientific concepts, I developed the discourse for the conception of the piece Morphogenesis.

The composition Morphogenesis was comissioned by the Música de Agora na Bahia, the MAB project, and was released in 2015 by the Ensemble DME of Portugal, during the concerts at MAB. The instrumentation for the piece is violin, clarinet and tape. This piece marks my first experience with the use of tape, prior to this occasion, I used electronics in real time.
