Finalized in 2014, Diptera (Duas Asas) - Nematocera is an homage to an important musical group from Bahia (Brazil) called Novos Baianos. The work was premiered by the Camará Ensemble in 2014. Its name comes from the order of insects of two wings (Nematocera) in which the muriçoca (mosquito) is included. This insect is quoted in the Novos Baianos song “Com qualquer dois mil réis” (available in https://youtu.be/e1VGwiGwuOI), which is used as basis for construction of Diptera.

Some fragments of the instrumental introduction of the song are constantly used throughout the work alternating between levels of transformation or decharacterization. Some of the main compositional processes that effect these transformations are the combinatoriality, the twelve-tone and the time-point techniques. In an important point of the piece these fragments arise in their original form. They are accompanied by one of the popular genres widely used by the Novos Baianos in their songs called choro. Mandolin, acoustic guitar, tambourine, clarinet and flute reinforce its idiomatic character along with the idiossincratic harmony of the genre.
