Lines of Acid Dreams
James Diaz – [email protected]
Lines of acid dreams for flute, clarinet and cello is an unreal perspective of an imaginary sound-world. The work is mainly composed by the juxtaposition and contraposition of floating textures which reflects different points of view of this timeless reality. The textures are built by bright and suspended patterns which evoke a sort of distorted atmospheres.
The work has essentially three sections. The first one incorporates undetermined elements and improvisation. The writing is mainly polyphone which increase the difference of color and sound production of each instrument. In the second one all the three instruments come together to create a sort of melodies using the Klangfarbenmelodie technique. The last section is a retrograde of the first one. However, it is not an exactly note-by-note retrograde, instead, it is an event-by event retrograde.
The piece was composed in Bogotá, Colombia and premiered in Bahia, Brazil in 2015 as a commission by MAB and Camara Ensemble.
